# Plans and billing

Spectate has three plans: Starter, Team and Business. The plan decides the features and limits of a team. You choose how many monitors and hosts you pay for, so one more monitor never costs a whole plan. For prices, see [spectate.net/pricing](https://spectate.net/pricing).

Only the owner and members with the Billing role can choose a plan, buy credits and see invoices. See [teams and roles](/account/teams-and-roles).

## Plans

| | Starter | Team | Business |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum number of monitors and hosts | 20 | 80 | 250 |
| Shortest check interval | 60 seconds | 30 seconds | 30 seconds |
| Members | 3 | No limit | No limit |
| On-call schedules and more escalation paths | No. Alerts use the team's default path. | Yes | Yes |
| Status pages | 1 | 5 | No limit |
| Private status pages | No | Yes | Yes |
| Status page subscribers | 250 | 2,500 | 25,000 |
| SMS and call credits a month | 10 | 50 | 200 |

Every plan includes domain monitoring, projects, all channel types, alert sources, incidents and postmortems, failure screenshots, and custom domains and password protection on status pages. Domains and projects have no limit.

Monitors and hosts share one limit. A team on the Team plan that pays for 100 can run, for example, 70 monitors and 30 hosts. You can pay for up to 2,000 in the dashboard, in steps of 5. For more, contact [help@spectate.net](mailto:help@spectate.net).

## Trial

A new team gets a 14-day trial of the Team plan. You do not need payment details.

- The trial allows 80 monitors and hosts.
- The trial includes no SMS and call credits. Credits that you buy work during the trial.
- Spectate sends a reminder 3 days and 1 day before the trial ends.
- When the trial ends without a plan, monitoring pauses. Spectate deletes nothing at that time. See [without a plan](#without-a-plan).

## Choose a plan

1. In the dashboard, go to **Billing**.
2. Under **Billing**, select **Monthly** or **Yearly**.
3. Select the **Plan**.
4. Under **Monitors and hosts**, set the number that you want to pay for.
5. Select **Continue to checkout**.
6. Pay on the checkout page of Vatly.

When you subscribe, the trial ends and the plan starts. If monitoring was paused because the team had no plan, it resumes at once.

## Change your plan

On the **Billing** page, select another plan, interval or number of monitors and hosts.

- If the new price is higher, the change applies at once. On a monthly plan, the difference for the rest of the month goes on your next invoice. On a yearly plan, Vatly charges the difference at once.
- If the new price is lower, or you change between monthly and yearly, the change applies at the next renewal. The button says **Schedule change**.

If you pay for fewer monitors and hosts than you use, Spectate pauses the newest ones when the change applies.

## Over a limit

Spectate never deletes resources because of a limit. It pauses them instead.

- **Adding a monitor at the limit**: Spectate refuses the new monitor with the error `PLAN_LIMIT_REACHED`. The dialog offers to add 5 more monitors and hosts to your plan.
- **Adding a host at the limit**: the agent cannot register the host. Registration fails with `PLAN_LIMIT_REACHED`.
- **Inviting a member at the limit**: Spectate refuses the invite. Pending invites count towards the limit.
- **A smaller plan or a lower number**: the oldest monitors, hosts, domains and status pages stay active. Spectate pauses the newest ones above the limit. Monitors that check more often than the plan allows change to the shortest interval of the plan.

When Spectate pauses resources, the dashboard shows a banner. Owners, admins and billing members get an email. When the team has room again, Spectate resumes the paused resources, oldest first. It checks every hour, and at once when the plan changes.

On-call schedules, escalation paths and private status pages that you made on a larger plan keep working after a downgrade.

## SMS and call credits

Spectate uses credits for SMS messages and phone calls to people:

| Notification | Credits |
|---|---|
| SMS | 1 per phone number |
| Phone call | 2 per phone number |

- **Monthly credits**: every plan includes credits each month, also on a yearly plan. Unused credits do not carry over to the next month.
- **Bought credits**: on the **Billing** page under **SMS and call credits**, buy packs of 100 credits. You can buy 1 to 50 packs at a time. Bought credits never expire. Spectate uses them after the monthly credits.

Owners, admins and billing members get an email when 20% of the monthly credits is left, and when no credits are left. Alerts continue on all other channels when you have no credits. See [Telegram and phone](/alerting/telegram-and-phone).

## Cancel

1. Go to **Billing**.
2. Select **Cancel subscription**, then confirm.

The plan continues until the end of the paid period. Then monitoring pauses and owners get an email. To undo the cancellation before that date, select **Resume subscription**.

## Without a plan

A team has no plan when its trial ends, or when its subscription ends. Then:

1. Monitoring pauses for the whole team. Spectate stops checking monitors and domains. Your settings and history stay.
2. After 90 days without a plan, Spectate schedules the team for deletion. Owners, admins and billing members get a final warning by email.
3. 14 days after the warning, Spectate deletes the team and all its data.

If you subscribe at any time before the deletion, monitoring resumes and Spectate cancels the deletion. See [data and privacy](/account/data-and-privacy#delete-a-team).

## Invoices and payment

Vatly sells Spectate subscriptions as the merchant of record. Vatly charges the VAT, sends the invoices and receipts, collects the payments and sends payment reminders. Vatly's billing emails are in English.

To see invoices, or to change the payment method, VAT number or company name, go to **Billing** and select **Invoices and payment**. This opens the Vatly customer portal.

Prices are in euros and exclude VAT.
