# Intercom Messenger app

The Spectate app for Intercom shows a [status page](/status-pages/introduction) in your Intercom Messenger. Customers see the current status and the open incidents before they start a conversation. Each Intercom workspace shows one status page.

## Connect a workspace

Owners, managers and admins can connect Intercom.

1. In the dashboard, go to **Integrations**.
2. Under **Status pages**, next to **Intercom Messenger**, select **Connect**.
3. Select **Connect workspace**.
4. In Intercom, allow Spectate to access the workspace.
5. Back in the dashboard, select the **Status page** to show in the Messenger.
6. Select **Complete setup**.

The team must have a status page before you connect. Then add the Spectate app to the Messenger home in your Intercom settings.

Spectate requests no Intercom permissions and stores no Intercom token. It uses the token once, to read the ID of the workspace.

## What customers see

| Item | Content |
|---|---|
| Status | "Status: " and the headline of the page, for example "Status: Partial Outage", with an icon and the time of the last refresh. The item opens the status page. |
| Open incidents | Up to 3 unresolved incidents, each with its title and the start of its newest update (120 characters). Each item opens the incident page. |

The Messenger asks Spectate for the status each time it shows the app. Spectate keeps the answer for 60 seconds.

For a [private or password-protected page](/status-pages/access), the Messenger shows only the status. It does not show incident titles or updates.

## Change the status page

To show another status page, connect the workspace again and select the other page. A workspace shows one page. Connecting it again moves it to the new page.

To show status pages in several Intercom workspaces, select **Connect another** on the **Integrations** page. The page lists each connected workspace with the status page that it shows.

## Health check

Intercom checks every connected app once a day. If the workspace is not connected to a status page, Spectate reports the app as unhealthy. Intercom then shows a **Finish setup** link to the connect page of the Spectate dashboard.

If the workspace is not connected, the Messenger shows "This status page is not available right now."

## Workspaces from Spectate v1

Workspaces that you connected in the previous version of Spectate continue to work. You do not need to connect them again.
